Meet Our Apostle

Apostle James Henry Barrett was born on August 26, 1958. In 1997, he dedicated his life to the Lord and committed himself to the ministry. His foundational understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was developed through his service in the Pentecostal Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon under Pastor Robert Cole for seven years. During this period, he broadcasted messages of the gospel on WDEX Radio in Monroe, NC, through a 30-minute segment titled Healing of the Nation. Additionally, Pastor Barrett had the privilege of ministering at the Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Monroe, NC, from 1998 to 2000. His efforts were instrumental in providing hope and inspiration in Christ Jesus to both the residents and the staff of the nursing home.
Apostle Barrett delivered his trial sermon at Walker Grove Baptist Church, which was led by Pastor Jasper Poe, in 2004. It was at this ministry that he obtained his pastoral licenses and ordination papers, subsequently serving as the Associate Pastor of the church. Throughout his tenure at Walker Grove Ministry, he played a pivotal role in establishing several ministries, including the Rehabilitation Ministry, Second Chance Ministry, Faint Not Ministry, Forget Me Not Ministry, and the Evangelistic Ministry. His profound love for people is reflected in his dedication to caring for souls, and he possesses a fervent desire to see individuals saved. With every opportunity presented to him by God, he actively seeks to reach out to those in need.
Apostle Barrett experienced a divine calling to depart from Walker Grove Ministry and to serve alongside Apostle Michael Baker during the years 2013-2014, where he continued his mission of preaching the gospel. In 2016, prompted by the Holy Spirit, Pastor Barrett was ordained as Bishop Barrett under the mentorship of his spiritual father, the late Bishop Alphonso Davis. This sacred calling led to the establishment of the True Word Pentecostal Holiness Church, rooted in Albemarle, NC, in 2016. This pivotal moment propelled his ministry forward, and by the grace of God, he now serves as the presiding Bishop of the True Word Pentecostal Holiness Church in Monroe, NC, where he nurtures his congregation and provides guidance to young pastors who feel called to serve God. He remains committed to excellence in his study of the Scriptures and is currently pursuing a degree in Theology at the Fresh Water Bible Institute of the Gospel School of Bible Ministry in Mineral Springs, NC. Bishop Barrett's voice resonates throughout the community and the greater Charlotte, NC Metropolitan area through his evangelical outreach efforts. He firmly believes in making a personal impact by connecting with individuals on a one-on-one basis.
Apostle Barrett was officially recognized as an Apostle within the Lord's church in 2020. His vision for acquiring a church building was realized in 2023, through the grace of God's benevolence, at 35 Church St in Wadesboro, NC. This location enables him to further disseminate the message of Jesus Christ and to fulfill the directive to "Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
Apostle Barrett lives in Monroe, NC, and is married to Pastor Angela Barrett. Together, they are the parents of three adult children and one granddaughter.
